AI visibility checker

See whether ChatGPT and other AI assistants can find, read and quote your website. Results in seconds, with a clear fix for everything that's holding you back.

Method

What we check

Twenty checks in four groups, worth 100 points. A blocker, such as OAI-SearchBot being shut out or a page with almost no text, caps the score at 40, because nothing else matters until it's fixed.

Can AI crawlers get in?

robots.txt rules for OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Bingbot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot, plus your sitemap, llms.txt and HTTPS.

25 points

Can they read the page?

Whether the page loads for a crawler, how much text is there before any JavaScript runs, noindex or nosnippet rules, and response time.

30 points

Is it clearly labelled?

Title, meta description, one clear H1, structured data that describes your business, language, canonical address and sharing tags.

25 points

Is it worth quoting?

Questions answered on the page, short direct paragraphs, clear sections, who's behind the site and signs it's up to date.

20 points

It measures readiness, not results: we can't see whether any assistant cites you today. When you're ready to reach people while they're talking to ChatGPT, context hints are how ChatGPT Ads matches your ad to the conversation.

Questions

About AI visibility

AEO (answer engine optimisation) means making your site easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity and Claude to find, read and quote when they answer someone's question. Much of it is good SEO: crawlable pages, real text in the HTML, clear structure and direct answers.

No. This checks readiness: whether assistants can get in, read your page and understand it. Whether one cites you also depends on the question, your competitors and what other sites say about you. A low score usually means something is in the way, which is the part you can fix today.

That's your choice. OpenAI uses GPTBot to collect data for training its models, and OAI-SearchBot to show sites in ChatGPT search. Blocking GPTBot doesn't stop your site appearing in ChatGPT search, so the checker only reports it. Blocking OAI-SearchBot does, so that caps your score.

Many AI crawlers read the HTML your server sends and don't run JavaScript. If your content only appears after scripts run, they may see an almost empty page. Server-side rendering or prerendering puts the text in the HTML itself.

A newer, optional convention: a short plain-text file at /llms.txt that summarises your site for AI tools and links to your key pages. Few assistants rely on it yet, so it's worth only a few points.

We use it to send the report you asked for. If you also tick the box, we'll send occasional emails about ChatGPT Ads and Refract, and you can unsubscribe at any time. The privacy policy explains what we keep and for how long.
